WHY I STARTED A NEW BLOG AT AGE 50
Hello Spicy Lifers.
My name is Annette Daly, also known as the Hot Pepper Queen and I am the creator and founder of FUNCHILICOOK.com. This is a blog I started to help people have fun with spicy food and a hot lifestyle filled with passion, great friends, and charity.
I’m tickled by butterfly wings to be a part of a new blog series called, Between the Lines hosted by Katie at Katherinescorner.com. This series will host bloggers over 50 you should be following. Once a week for 10 weeks, Katie will feature ten bloggers. Be sure to follow our hostess and check out Who’s Who each week. All of the bloggers have been asked about their ‘WHY’ when it comes to blogging. Here’s my story.
My husband and I travel all over the USA competing in chili cook-offs. I can’t think of a better way to spend quality time together, while contributing back to people in need.
I was fortunate at age 50 to have the privilege to re-evaluate and execute what exactly made me happy. I am very energetic, love meeting new people, and am nurtured by hard work and passion. (This is a description of all my favorite chili head friend’s too.)
Johnny Angel, my pet name for my husband, said I had complete freedom to do what I wanted as he headed back to the corporate world for a few more years after our sabbatical…with one condition…I had to start cooking dinner. He would bring home the bacon, but it was my turn to fry it up in a pan.
You see, Johnny Angel and I had a deal when we got married 25 years ago. I would take care of all the laundry and he would take care of the cooking. (It was my idea, and a very good one, hee hee hee!) And guess what, I love cooking, especially chili and other spicy food. (One can’t live by chili alone.)
This is where the idea of a blog started. Johnny Angel and I are fortunate to be in a position to give back, thus we participate and promote charities in chili cook-offs. It’s our favorite way to contribute. I want to recruit new blood into our chili family. I love to have fun, share my passion and excitement for a life lived on fire, and encourage others to do the same. I adore traveling, a good meal and want to help others discover more spicy places to visit and food to eat.
I am also a Certified Image Consultant. I dream of my blog allowing me to write sponsored blog posts so I can get free Cowgirl Hats and Cowgirl boots. HI-larious, right??? Check out these cool bandana pants here!
I am an Ambassador for Sassy, Classy, and Bad Assy. I dream big, and strive for excellence and I encourage my readers to do the same. I recently started a Facebook group called, “Spicy Life Society.” In this group we talk about various subjects around spices, cooking in the kitchen or on a grill, and passion/hobbies that we are especially enthusiastic about. If this resonates with you, YOU CAN JOIN THE GROUP HERE.
This is where we will be creating a legacy through food and passion. I am soon starting an online free video course called, “This Aint Your Grandma’s Chili, Beginner’s Guide to Chili Cookoffs” and you can sign up for it HERE! This is a wonderful place to dip your finger in the chili to get a taste of the Chili Head community.
Although I love to stretch and challenge myself, learning all the techy stuff that comes along with blogging drives me cray-cray! It’s also tough for me to stick to a schedule since I am such a free spirit. I am moving forward, however, one step at a time.
It is so exciting to be meeting other bloggers in this series. Please be sure to stop by their blogs and leave some comment love. The links are provided below.
Peace, love, and hot stuff…I look forward to seeing you on the chili trail ahead.
